The committee for the 2016 IFIP TC-11 Kristian Beckman Award (Simone Fischer-Huebner (Swedish delegate to TC-11), Bart De Decker (Representative of SEC 2016), and Yuko Murayama (Chair TC-11)) conferred the 2016 award upon Prof. Dr. Ir. Bart Preneel, a Professor at the K.U.Leuven with the following motivation:

"Bart Preneel receives the KB-award , because he has significantly contributed to the field of information security in research, education and promotion. He is an excellent crypto and security researcher who has contributed with high impact research results. Besides, he is known as an engaged and fascinating teacher and mentor of PhD students, who has regularly been organizing and contributing to international summer schools and conferences. Moreover, he contributed significantly as a stakeholder to the discussion of secure eGovernment solutions and has dedicated an important part of his research and other professional activities to the protection of privacy as a civil right."

Bart accepted the award and delivered a keynote talk at the award session during the IFIP SEC 2016 conference in Ghent in June 2016.
